New Balance’s NB Development Corp. broke ground this week on The Track, a multi-sport athletic complex at its Boston Landing development in Brighton scheduled to be open in 2021. The space will include a hydraulically-banked 200-meter indoor track, hard court and turf field space, as well as seating for 5,000 spectators.
The Track will also include The Lab at Boston Landing, a 20,000 sq. ft. sports research lab focused on human performance, biomechanics and product innovation, which will complement the brand’s existing facilities in Lawrence, MA; and an as-yet unnamed 3,500 capacity concert venue operated by The Bowery Presents.
“The Track at New Balance will set a new performance standard in professional and amateur sports due to its innovative design, location and amenities,” said Jim Davis, chairman of New Balance. “Its incomparable level of sports excellence and competitive spirit will inspire athletes to perform at levels they have only dreamed of attaining, with one of the fastest and most technical tracks in the world, if not the fastest.”
The space, which will also house ground-floor retail and food service, is expected to be completed by late summer and early fall of 2021. It is designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects and constructed by John Moriarty Associates.
