Under Armour, Farm To Feet, REI, Zumiez, Reebok x Maison Margiela, Keen, Oofos

Under Armour is launching its first women’s-specific basketball shoe, the UA HOVR Breakthru, on September 17. Available in seven colorways, the $110 HOVR Breakthru will exclusively be sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods, UA.com, and UA Brand Houses.

Dick’s Sporting Goods president Lauren Hobart said of the partnership with UA on the HOVR Breakthru: “We saw a gap in the market for a basketball shoe developed specifically for women and wanted to be able to offer this to our female customers, but needed the support from a major footwear brand to create this type of shoe.”

Sock brand Farm to Feet announced that it has been awarded a significant order from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) for its US merino wool Kodiak and Fayetteville styles.

“We design, develop, and manufacture the very best socks using only U.S. sourced materials,” Kelly Nester, Farm to Feet CEO, said in a statement. “Those who serve in the armed services require socks that support their mission without fail. As a result, service members are some of the most discerning critics, as they require socks that can stand up to the rigors of deployment. Receiving this contract further solidifies our belief in our products and Farm to Feet is honored to support our soldiers’ need for American-made socks.”

REI has agreed to sell its new 400,000-sq.-ft. campus in Bellevue, WA, to Facebook for $367.6 million. The co-operative had initially planned to occupy the space over the summer, but ultimately decided to divest it as many of corporate employees work from smaller regional offices or from home during the pandemic.

Zumiez, the specialty chain that generated an 8 percent increase in North American second-quarter sales, continues to face challenging sales within the footwear category in the third quarter. CEO Rick Brooks told analysts part of the retailer’s problems related to footwear have been supply chain related and an inability to obtain certain sizes from vendors.

Boston-based athletic firm Reebok has signed a multi-season partnership with haute couture house Maison Margiela. The first shoe in the collaboration, the Tabi Instapump Fury, will be available on Sept. 23 in both heeled and flat versions. It was first seen on the runway in January as part of the Margiela spring-summer 2020 Artisanal show. Future styles will be released in 2021.

In response to the massive wildfires devastating California, Washington and Oregon, Portland, OR-based outdoor firm Keen has created the Western Wildfire Relief fund. Keen will donate 1 percent of U.S. sales from its e-commerce site up to a total of $20,000 to United Way of the Columbia-Willamette’s Wildfire Response and Recovery Fund and United Way Bay Area’s Greater Bay Area Central Coast Wildfire Relief Fund.

Boston-based recovery brand Oofos will launch a Teacher Appreciation Donation program on Sept. 18. Running through the end of the month, the program will donate 1,500 pairs of shoes initially (more than 3,000 are planned in total) to schools across the country. The initial donations will be sent to teachers at schools in Florida, California, Texas, Massachusetts and Illinois. In addition, Oofos will use RealID.com to offer teachers additional benefits.
