Eric Heaton, 68, of DeKalb, IL, died on February 19, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb. He was born May 6, 1951, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Charles T. and Mary L. (Walker) Heaton. Heaton traveled more than a million miles crisscrossing the American heartland he loved so dearly representing brands such as Buster Brown, SAS Comfort Shoes, Spira and Dryshod. He loved hearing stories and sharing tales wherever he travelled. He was perfectly at home on a fitting stool listening to a customer’s entire family history, walking into an Amish store, or selling to big chains. His jokes were plentiful, and he was open with his thoughts while still respecting yours. He loved farm country and the people who dedicated their lives to working the soil. Whether it was training his dogs or riding his lawnmower, he enjoyed the outdoors and country living. Heaton was a lifelong dedicated road warrior of the shoe industry in both retail and wholesale and this family man’s big smile, warm laugh and presence will be deeply missed. Eric Heaton is survived by his wife Christy Heaton, his daughter, Corie Gavin, his son, Chris Heaton, and two grandchildren, Tyler and Chase Heaton.
